Slow Cooker Balsamic Chicken

Slow Cooker Balsamic Chicken | Something to be SavoredIt’s been brought to my attention that there is a correlation between recipe simplicity and attempts at cooking… the more simple the recipes I post are, the more likely my friends are to actually try to make them.  Well, you ask and you shall receive.  Last week I pinned an unbelievably simple crock pot recipe from Dishing with Leslie.  I love everything about it: short ingredients list, practically no prep, and did I mention it’s balsamic (yum)?

Restaurant Replica: Chang’s Spicy Chicken [from PF Changs]

Although it’s a “suburbanite chain,” I’m not afraid to admit that I love me some P.F. Chang’s.  At all my favorite restaurants, I have a staple dish that I rarely ever stray from. Well a few weeks ago, I strayed, and I ordered Chang’s Spicy Chicken. And I’ll never go back.  I’ve spent some time perusing the web and trying to figure out the perfect combination of recipes to replicate this tasty dish, and I am pretty freaking pleased with what I came up with. So come along while I get my spicy chaaang on, hungry ones… Continue reading

Slow Cooker French Onion Turkey

I don’t typically make soup from a packet, but ever since I discovered this recipe, I sure as hell always have packets of french onion soup mix in my cabinet. This is  the easiest crock pot meal I have ever made. The soup mix turns into a thick, flavorful sauce that is soo delish. Three ingredients. No prep. No hassle. Just eat. Continue reading

Spinach, Roasted Red Pepper & Provolone Stuffed Balsamic Chicken

Balsamic Chicken Stuffed with Provolone, Spinach & Roasted Red Peppers | Something to be SavoredYou know those nights that you’ll settle for eating whatever’s in the fridge? Well earlier this week I had one of those nights, and there are a few things that are always in my fridge: peppers, onions, cheese. Always in my freezer? Chicken and spinach. Always in my cabinet? Balsamic vinegar, olive oil and garlic. What a coincidence that those items combined make what I now consider one pretty damn good dinner. Want your family/friends/roomies/strangers to think you’re a fancy-shmancy-really-good-at-feeding-them-chef? This should do the trick (it worked for me!) Continue reading

Chipotle Chicken Crunch Wraps

Chipotle Chicken Crunch Wraps | Something to be SavoredI love things that are chipotle flavored. Like, really REALLY love. I also thought that a guilty pleasure of mine was Taco Bell (although I haven’t had it since college — apparently there’s a reason), but was kind of disgusted by the thought of the goopy-jarred-nacho-cheese-and-ground-beef-combo called for in this Taco Bell Crunch Wrap Supreme recipe. But the idea of the DIY crunch wrap was too cool to pass up, and hence, the Chipotle Chicken Crunch Wrap was born! And it was amazing. Awesome. Loved by all. I need more crunch wraps in my life. Restaurant Replica: Chicken Limoncello

Chicken Limoncello | Something to be SavoredA friend recently sent me her favorite coconut shrimp from a restaurant, suggesting I try to make it myself.  While the recipe is on the back burner (only until I go out and buy some shrimp!), the idea is on the front burner. So today, I give you the very first Restaurant Replica, a post in which I replicate some of my favorite dishes from local restaurants.  There is a great Italian place in West Chester, PA called Limoncello. If you go, you should get their signature dish. I was not going, but I decided I wanted that damn signature dish anyway. So on a random Tuesday night, with six of my besties gathered around my dinner table (picture below!), I attempted to recreate that delicious Chicken Limoncello. Continue reading

Slow Cooker Orange Chicken

Crock Pot Orange Chicken | Something to be SavoredChinese food is not necessarily one of those things this is cheaper if you cook it yourself. It’s like, what, $2.75 for a pint of chicken lo mein? And they usually have it ready for you in about four and a half minutes? But the ability to cook something from scratch that tastes just like the “real thing” is so worth it in my book.  But not to worry, this blog is all about making things that are delicious but simple, so this recipe was just as easy as everything else I make. I’m totally not ready for the tough stuff yet.  And hey, it was a rainy day spent crafting and watching Julie and Julia, why not break out the crock pot? Continue reading

Chicken Salad that will rock your world

This is the best chicken salad. Ever.

End of story.

On of my friends has refused to order chicken salad at a deli or restaurant ever since I made her this recipe. This chicken salad spoils people.  And… it’s healthy.  That’s right. Leave everything you know about mayonnaise-slathered goopy caloric-filled chicken salad behind, because this is a game changer.
